THERAPEUTIC OIL RETENTION THERAPY FOR THE HEAD
Shiro Picchu is a specialised Ayurvedic treatment involving the external application of medicated oil on the scalp region, using a cotton pad soaked in warm, therapeutic oil. This procedure is highly effective in managing a wide range of conditions, including:
- Neurological disorders
- Psychological imbalances
- ENT and ophthalmic issues
- Hair and scalp-related problems
Therapeutic Benefits of Shiro Picchu:
Promotes the health and functioning of the sense organs
Rejuvenates the endocrine and nervous systems
Enhances digestion and metabolism
Stimulates blood circulation in the scalp and head region
Improves oxygenation and nutrient delivery at the cellular level
Facilitates deep relaxation and induces sound sleep
Helps in removing free radicals, thereby detoxifying tissues
Reduces congestion in the upper respiratory tract and alleviates breathlessness
Effective in relieving inflammation, pain, and muscle tension

MODE OF ACTION OF SHIRO PICCHU
The efficacy of Shiro Picchu is derived from the synergistic action of:
The pharmacological properties of the selected medicated oil (anti-inflammatory, analgesic, decongestant, etc.)
Snehana (oleation) – softening and nourishing effect
Swedana (mild sudation) – promotes opening of channels and absorption
Controlled temperature – ensures optimal therapeutic effect
The lipid-based medicated oils used in Shiro Picchu are capable of penetrating the skin easily due to the lipid-soluble nature of cell membranes (composed of phospholipids). This allows the active components of the oil to:
Cross the skin barrier
Enhance phospholipid function
Transport cellular impurities
Support tissue detoxification
The lukewarm oil raises the local temperature by 2–3°C, resulting in vasodilation, improved circulation, and enhanced nutrient delivery. This physiological response supports healing, reduces inflammation, and alleviates symptoms associated with nervous, respiratory, and musculoskeletal conditions.
